Luxury Vegan Brands Rocking It

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Let's celebrate women's outerwear and fashion brands that are as luxurious and functional as they are vegan. Brands that sit at the same table with non-vegan luxury brands, and deliver competitive, high fashion, whilst championing animal welfare front and center.

In today's world, consumers are certainly more cynical and discerning, seeking the very best in luxury and quality, without wanting to buy into animal cruelty. Furthermore, many brands understand the value in combining luxury with ethics, and find transparency in their cruelty-free approach to be a successful and feel-good sales strategy.

The vegan movement, as you know it, is dramatically evolving, and becoming more of a mainstream notion. Vegan fashion brands that are doing it right embrace all willing-consumers - vegans and non-vegans alike - by inviting their purchase power to change the fashion landscape so that it no longer precludes animal welfare.

The global vegan fashion movement is not slowing down, valued at US$451.7 Bn in 2021; and it's expected to grow at a CAGR of 7.1% during the forecast period 2022 - 2030.

Here are my top picks of women's luxury outerwear and fashion brands that are rocking vegan.

Outerwear:

Save the Duck

Founded in 2012, Save the Duck is well known for its collection of jackets, puffers and now leisure wear.

An Italian company, Save the Duck is 100% vegan, and

was the first Italian brand to receive the B Corporation

Certification. Save the Duck products are beautifully made with fabrics from recycled plastic bottles and

Plumtech r technology which is a recycled polyester synthetic down fill. In other words, no ducks were live plucked for the insides of Save the Duck's outerwear.

Save the Duck's outerwear is warm, waterproof and breathable.

In 2020, mountaineer Kuntal A. Joisher, wearing Save the Duck, summited Everest - and set a record by completing the first ascent of Everest wearing incredibly warm and well constructed vegan gear!

La Seine & Moi

If you love the look of fur, but don't want to buy into extreme animal violence that comes with the fur industry, well, La Seine & Moi delivers luxurious and warm faux fur coats, jackets and shearling coats. This Paris-based brand is oh-so glamorous, and every piece feels like a work of art.

Launched in 2015 by Lydia Bahia, Lydia recently launched a delightful house line and ready-to-wear collection, although her outerwear line still takes center stage.

It's worth noting that the manufacturing and production of the faux fur material utilized by this brand has lower C02 emissions than that of real fur. That's impressive!

Maison Atia

Based in my hometown, New York city, this outerwear

brand is so beyond luxurious and cool, offering up an extensive selection of coats, jackets, vests and boleros in vibrant color.

Maison Atia specializes in faux fur fashion, and designer Chloe Mandel has successfully recreated the look and feel of real animal fur using materials such as Koba (a bio-based fur), along with recycled and up-cycled materials.

Fashion:

Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney has been rocking it since the launch of her luxury brand in 2001. She is the daughter of singer Paul McCartney and American photographer Linda McCartney, who was an avid animal rights campaigner.

Stella McCartney is my all-time favorite as it's quite easy to fall in love with her line of clothes, handbags and shoes. Her Adidas collaboration is colorful and fun, it's hard not to notice it in stores.

Unfortunately, Stella McCartney is not yet 100% vegan, as she uses some silk in her collection. Stella believes it is critical to move towards 100% vegan, and has even made reference to a plant-based silk supplier that provides a good silk alternative.

In 2022, Stella McCartney launched a $200 million fund (the SOS fund) - to fund vegan and sustainable rising brands.

Benedetti Life

Founded in 2019 by award-winning Slovenian designer Matera Benedetti, Matera's fashion line is distinctively imaginative, with vibrant colors and patterns. Benedetti Life's clothes feel iconic and timeless with each piece rejecting fleeting trends.

Benedetti Life is PETA approved, and has gathered quite a few impressive fashion and design awards along the way, such as Elle's Best Designer in 2020, and Global Vegan Awards Best Brand for Luxury Vegan Fashion in 2021.

The brand utilizes premium vegan materials such as hemp, bamboo,

pineapple leather, Tencel™ Lyocell (renewable resource from eucalyptus wood), recycled textiles from post consumer plastics and organic cotton to name a few.

Nanushka

Nanushka is a contemporary fashion house that designs and produces garments that are modern, practical and durable. Their label always feels very feminine, slightly bohemian, and each piece can be dressed up or down. Minimal design, delightful detail and a touch of cool make this brand irresistible.

Sandra Sandor founded Nanushka in 2005, and all the

materials utilized to create the collection are 100% animal-free. In the process of production, the label also finds ways to reuse waste.

Nanushka is well known for their vegan leather used for their trousers, mini skirts, jackets and bags.

Orchard Moon

Orchard Moon is a London-based brand that creates beautiful and ethical loungewear and nightwear in hand-painted prints. The colorful prints are exclusive, and the textiles feel like silk, although no animals were harmed. Orchard Moon uses TENCELL™ and Lyocell filament that is sustainably managed woodlands.

Founder Gabrielle Cave is a powerhouse in the world of ethical luxury. With her degree in Textiles Design, Gabrielle openly talks about her aha moment when she visited Conception Island in the Bahamas. She was equally stunned by the beauty as she was by the plastic waste that littered the uninhabited island. And, Gabrielle made it her mission to create a sustainable brand.

The robes and pajama sets are unique and feminine.
